U.S. Veteran

Franklin Donald Junior Craft, 85, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 18, 2018, while at his home surrounded by family.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at Harmony Community Church in Peachland, NC on March 24, 2018 at 1:00pm.

Don was born March 24, 1932 in Kennett, Missouri (Dunklin County) to the late James Franklin Craft and the late Iva Florence Masters Craft Collins. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and fought as a Golden Gloves Boxer. Upon his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life Anza Darlene Carr Hendrix Craft on December 28, 1957. They moved to Michigan from Missouri and over the next 30 years raised a family. Don served as a firefighter in Burton, while working for General Motors in Flint until his retirement in 1999.

Don was a loving and faithful husband, devoted father and proud grandpa. He worked hard, slept little and sacrificed much to insure that his family was always provided for. He enjoyed sitting outside under his favorite tree, woodcarving, riding his faithful mare “Wish,” and cuddling his many fur-babies.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by Darlene, his loving wife of 50 years, his son Franklin Donald “Donnie” Craft Jr., his brothers Elmer Craft and Gary Craft, and sisters Mary Capps, Delores Sinnett, and Vera Summer.

Surviving are his daughters, Sheree Craft and Carla Rodenberger both of Peachland, NC, Debra Mass of Chandler, AZ, and his windowed daughter-in-law Joni Craft of Burton, MI. His sons, Donald Wayne Craft of Copperas Cove, TX, and John Hendrix of Burton, MI, as well as 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Patricia Bishop of Cave City, AR, Shirley Parks and Judy Austin both of Broseley, MO, Ematee Taylor of Poplar Bluff, MO, Barbara Sullivan of Camden, DE, Sue Jackson of Winchester, KY and Marcella Kester of Redding, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Morgan & Son Funeral Home (218 East Main Street Marshville, NC 28103) on behalf of the family to help cover the cost of his final expenses.
